and Industry is hosting an informal Buffet and Social to launch the new Tubbercurry
website tubbercurry.ie. The social takes place on this Saturday evening at 8.00pm
in Cawleys Hotel and tickets are available in Barrys Pharmacey, Gillespies
Drapery, McCarrick and Sons Auctioneers or at Cawleys Hotel. Tickets are €30
each and a great evenings entertainment is assured with music to round off
the evening to suit all tastes. Liam Scollan, Chief Executive of Knock Airport
is to perform the official launch or switch on of the new website. Liam lives
in Lavagh, at the foot of Knocknashee and has done a tremendous job at Knock Airport
since taking over there a few years ago. The new website tubbercurry.ie
is an excellent production having been professionally designed by local experts
Jeff Kaye and Mary Loftus. All local businesses, clubs and community groups should
be listed on the site as it will be a very important advertising window for the
town over coming years. Further information can be had from Chamber President
Mary Barry Leonard. The social this Saturday evening is open to all members of
the community even if you are not a member of the Chamber.
The
Phoenix Players are on stage in New Ross, Co. Wexford this Thursday night
April 19th in the All Ireland Confined Final with their play At the Black
Pigs Dyke by Vincent Woods. Their final production prior to the all Ireland
was held on this Tuesday April 17th at which the author attended. The results
will be in on Sunday evening at the conclusion of the All Ireland Festival. All

Invites you to the launch of Recycling Project for St. Bridgets Hall and
The unveiling of their Wall Mural on Friday April 20th at 8pm. Venue: Supper room
St. Brigets Hall. Project sponsored by Sligo Co. Council, Tubbercurry
Foroige Club and Tubbercurry Family and Childcare Resource Centre. The
committee of the Western Drama Festival met recently and are delighted to
report that the recent Festival was the most successful for many years. Attendances
for each of the nine nights was well ahead of previous years. There were many
favourable comments about the tiered seating which gave an atmosphere of theatre
to the venue and about the warmth and comforts of St. Brigids Hall. Five of the
groups who participated have qualifed for the all-Ireland Finals. KATS Galway
and Coolera for Athlone and Phoenix, Claregalway, and Doonmore for the Confined
Finals in New Ross. Next years Festival which will be the 65th will be held over
nine nights from Friday, 7th to Saturday, 15th March. The
death occurred of Mick Lang, late of Masshill on Thursday last April 12th.
Aged 80 years Mick was a well know character in the area, having supplied sand
and gravel for many years in his earlier working life. His remains reposed in
Morahans Funeral Home and removal took place to St. Michaels Church, Cloonacool.
Burial took place on Saturday after funeral mass in Cloonacool cemetery. Sympathy
is extended to his wife Mollie, sons Michael, John, Richard, Patrick, daughters
Mary Kennedy Achonry and Anna Meers Aclare, brother Joe, sister Kathleen, grand-children
and many friends. The death occurred last week in Baileys,
Nursing home of Jim Walsh, late of Lough Talt. In his 95th year, Jim lived at
home until a few months ago. He was on the forestry service staff for many years
during his working life. Sympathy is extended to his sons Austin, Peter and Seamus,
grand children and great grand children and his many other relations. The
death occurred on April 11th last in his 94th year of John Kennedy, late of
Dowros, Tourlestrane. His wife Teresa died within the last few years. Johnny was
a lively character who had a word for everybody and was always interested in peoples
progress. He worked for many years as a school bus driver going back to the 1960s,
70s and 80s and would have known nearly every child by name attending
both Banada and the Marist Convents. His remains reposed in Coens Funeral home
and removal took place to Tourlestrane Church. Burial took place on Friday in
Rhue Cemetary. Sympathy is extended to his daughters Anne, Mary and Jacqueline,
brothers Joe in Chaffpool and Bernard, sister, grand-children and many friends.
The death occurred on 3rd March last, of Peter Mannion
of London. Aged 71 Peter was a native of Humbert St. and Connolly Park and emigrated
to England in the mid 1950s like so many of his contemporaries. He always
kept in touch with local happenings and made his visit to Tubbercurry just last
year. A number of his classmates attended the funeral in Tubbercurry last week
when his cremated remains were received into St. John the Evangelist Church prior
to Burial in Rhue Cemetary. One of a large family, sympathy is extended to his
nephews, nieces and relations, many of whom still live locally Killala

artistic design proposal for Tubbercurry: As part of the Strategic Objectives
of Sligo County Council in supporting the Arts through the 'Community Arts Act
Grants Scheme', local artist Thomas Sheridan has been selected to liaison with
the Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce, along with residents and business owners
to develop and successfully implement a visual colour and design scheme for the
Wolfe Tone Square area of Tubbercurry. The artist has developed a visual plan
and artistic strategy for the locale, showing the suggested paint/colour schemes
for individual buildings in the overall context of "The Square" and
its surrounding streets. This proposal also includes an outdoor historic art gallery
portraying the events of the 1798 'Year of the French' through a series of paintings,
which will be located at various locations around the Square and nearby streets.
The proposal centres on making the Square in Tubbercurry the largest outdoor art
gallery in the country. The plans are currently on display at Teach Laighne and
all Tubbercurry residents are most welcome to come along, to view the display

Sligo Spring Walking Festival - The Annual South Sligo Spring Walking Festival
takes place on this Saturday, 21st and Sunday, 22nd April 2007. There will be
three walks each day. The short walks will suit those who prefer a leisurely pace
while the medium and long walks will be more challenging and offer enjoyable hill

Bothar, the Development Aid Agency are currently recruiting people to take
part in this years Womens Mini Marathon on their behalf and to raise much
needed funds to help with their work in the Developing World. Anyone interested

Rural and Social Scheme is indebted to the Tidy Towns Committee for its acknowledgment

Fleadh will this year be held in Gurteen hosted by the local C.C.E. Branch
from the 1st to the 3rd June. It is most important for all competitors to take
note that all entries with relevant fees should be sent to the Fleadh Secretary,
at Coleman Centre, Gurteen by Friday April 27th and no late entries will be accepted.

The first heat of the South Sligo Pubs Stars in your eyes was a roaring
success last Friday night in Mickey Macs, Tubbercurry with 5 pubs competing for
a slot in the final on Friday May 4th. The winning pubs on the night voted the
best by the public were Micky Macs and Murphys Hotel. Best of luck in the
Final and well done to all who helped and supported . Next heat is in Murphys
Hotel this Friday Night the 20th of April at 9pm. The committee would also like
to sincerely thank Colette Cooke for organising the final Prize of a night, dinner

- All roads lead to the Gaelic Park, New York next May. Sligo fans will be
going out to support their team on the 10th May from Shannon. They will be staying

Womens Group meet every Wednesday evening at Teach Laighne between 7pm
and 9pm. New members always welcome. Throughout the year the group will be doing

the Mental Health support group, meet every Wednesday night in the Resource House

16th April at 6.00pm in Teach Laighne The Foróige
youth club have been busy over the Easter Holidays completing their wall mural
and recycling project for St. Bridgets Hall. Both will be unveiled in the
Supper Room of St. Bridgets Hall on Friday 20th at 8pm. All are welcome
to attend. On Friday 27th of April at 7pm the Foroige youth
club are doing a 5 mile sponsored walk to raise funds for Debra Ireland. Debra
Ireland is a fundraising organisation that support children with Epidermolysis
Bullosa, have skin as fragile as a butterflys wing-skin that can blister
at the slightest touch. Club members should contact the Leaders for sponsorship
cards. Please support this worthy cause. FRC Community Meetings:
A number of meetings have been arranged for different community groups throughout
Tubbercurry, the first of these were held on Monday with Crèche parents
and the residents of Mountain View. Meetings are to update the community on the
ongoing expansion and development of the Family Resource Centre. The
teens continue to meet on a Thursday night at 7pm in the Family Resource Centre,
Conlon House. New members are welcome. Spanish students
will visit Tubbercurry in the month of July. Host families are required to
keep students for 4 weeks in July in Tubbercurry and all the area around. Host
families wont be in charge of the student because Spanish and Irish leaders
and coordinators will be in town with the principal of the course in charge of
them. Students will attend classes in the morning and activities in the afternoon.
They will also have lunch at school. Host families will be paid more than €170
per week for keeping the student. The committee are looking for five families
to keep one of these students: four girls aged 10, 12, 15 and 15 and one boy aged

Literary Festival Leyney Writers: The second annual Tubbercurry Literary Festival
is to be held during Tubbercurry Old Fair Celebrations on Tuesday 7 August 2007.
The festival will commence at 7:30 pm in Teach Laighne. Tubbercurry is a thriving
and expanding town in the north west of Ireland. It has a long established literary
tradition and this has recently been reinforced by the establishment of the Leyney
Writers. This group has decided to organise a literary festival to coincide with
the town's Old Fair Celebrations on Tuesday 7 August. To celebrate the town's
literary tradition members of the group will be reading from their work during
the evening in Teach Laighne, the new one-stop shop that houses Tubbercurry Community
Library. The culmination of the evening will be the announcement of the winners
of the three competitions that are being organised. These comprise a Short Story
Competition; a Poetry Competition and a Rhyming Poetry Competition Details of
the rules and entry criteria for these competitions can be had from Tubbercurry
