Clocktower Entertainment - Cinema Re-Opens - A little bit of Hollywood came to Tubbercurry last Thursday evening Feb. 2nd when the cinema re-opened in St. Brigids Hall after a gap of over 40 years. It is thought the last film is be shown on the big screen in St. Brigids Hall was ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ in 1969. The cinema experience has been re- ignited by a new group known as ‘Clocktower Entertainment’ and an exciting line up of films has been organised over the next few months. Getting the right evening to suit most people is a bit of trial and error so for the rest of February Thursday night is Tubbercurrys movie nights. Guest of honour to re-launch the cinema was Emmy Award winner and Tubbercurry native, Dearbhla Walsh. Dearbhla gave a highly entertaining and informative talk on the whole film experience and on some of her experiences in the film directing world. The opening film shown was ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ and the lead player Andy Circus sent his regards to Tubbercurry via Dearbhla. Master of ceremonies Mary Barry spoke on some memories of the 1960’s cinema experience while film group chairman Sean Walsh spoke of his 1950’s memories. Names of Fr. Duffy, Bernie & Nan Maye, Peter Gibbons and Martin McCormack were just some of the people remembered as pioneers of the cinema in those years. Cinema is a marvellous social occasion for people of all ages and families and should be experienced. The line up of films over the next few weeks is very exciting and is advertising locally. Well done to all concerned and best wishes for many more great cinema nights. Next Thursday Feb.23rd Film" I Walk the Line".
