I would like to provide you with a brief introduction to South Sligo Community Park Ltd. We are a community based non-profit company set up in order to improve the sporting facilities available to the people of South Sligo. We are currently primarily made up from members of various south Sligo sports organizations, but we welcome other sporting and community based organisations to co-operate with us.
An overview of our main objective is to redevelop the current sports field in the Mountain Road area with a new football pitch, running track, dressing rooms and car parking. We are in the process of signing an extended lease on the land with the VEC.
The VEC have allocated a section of this area for our use, but personally we feel that this entire section of land should be re-zoned for recreational use. It would be an ideal area for more sporting facilities and for a public park. We feel that currently the provision for recreational space in Tubbercurry and South Sligo as a whole is extremely poor. This development will give quality sports facilities to a great number of people in this area as well as providing a safe area for casual walkers and joggers.
We continue to meet routinely in an effort to close all administrative loose ends and will be making a big push on the proposal in 2012.
