| Lough Talt is a popular walking area |
Walking is a simple form of exercise and a good range of walk circuits
exists starting in town, going out through rural countryside and finishing in
town. In addition for those that are a bit more adventurous, the Sligo
Way is a series of longer treks, some of which go through the Ox
Mountains, a few miles outside Tubbercurry. Traditional
Music is alive and well in Tubbercurry and the South Sligo Community. The
Annual South Sligo Summer School has now been running for over
20 years in Tubbercurry. This is a week of teaching/learning of traditional music
in a wide variety of instruments. Every year over 600 students congregate
in Tubbercurry, usually the 2nd /3rd week in July with the goal of learning more
and improving their traditional music skills. Drama enthusiasts
must get involved with the Phoenix Players, a drama group established
in Tubbercurry for over 60 years. They usually do at least one production annually
– one acts, three acts, pantomime etc and their motto is to get as much
of the community as possible involved. They regularly perform on the Amateur Drama
Festival Circuit nationwide each Spring and many awards have been won over the
years by members of the Phoenix Players.
