The Western Drama Festival have selected a top adjudicator for the festival commencing on Fri 2nd. March. Scott Marshall from the Guild of Drama Adjudicators will be the judge. Scott is from Derry and is making his 4th visit to this festival. His first was in 1975 and his most recent was the 1act Festival in 2009.  Scott is an actor, director, tutor and play write. He has adjudicated 3 Athlone All Ireland Finals, 6 All Ireland 1Act Finals, 7 British All Winners Finals and at the prestigious World Festival of Amateur Drama in Oman. This makes him one of the most experienced and respected adjudicator on the amateur drama circuit.

The festival, now in it's 69th. year, opens with the Phoenix Players in 'The Cripple of Inishmaan' by Martin McDonagh on Friday 2nd March and continues nightly at 8pm to conclude on Sat. 10th. 69th. Western Drama Festival. The programme of plays and groups has been announced. Nine groups will participate in the festival of full length plays which will run in St. Brigids Hall Theatre from Fri. 2nd to Sat 10th. March. Groups from all over the country have been included. Both of last years winners are making a welcome return - Cornmill Mill Theatre Group Carrigallen open winners and Ballyshannon Drama Society confined winners who also went on to win the All Ireland Finals. Many other top groups in the country are in the programme including the local Phoenix Players who open the Festival with their production of 'The Cripple of Inishmann' by Martin McDonagh, Nenagh Players, Coolera Dramatic Society, and Wexford Drama Group making their first appearance at this event.  Meanwhile the Official Launch of the programme will be held in Mickey Mack's (upstairs Lounge) on Fri. 17th Feb. The programme will be launched by Seamus O'Rourke of Cornmill Theatre. Seamus is a well known actor, director and playwright and participates regularly in drama in Tubbercurry. He is also a fabulous story teller and entertainer and a great night is assured.
